The Festes del Tura
The festes del Tura is the main festival of the city of Olot in the province of Girona (Catalonia). It is one of the most popular summer festivals in Catalonia and its name comes from the patron of the city the Saint Lady of del Tura. In 1997, this festival was declared “Traditional Festival of National Interest” and in 2010 “Heritage Festival of National Interest”. This festival is characterized by the large number of events and concerts that are held over five days, basically in the street of the old part of Olot. This is a very popular festival were many people and organizations of Olot and the surroundings are involved in its organization and actively participate. One of the biggest events during this festival is the traditional Giants, dwarfs and knights Dance in the Main Square (Plaça Major) of the city, that takes place on September 8th. Another highlight is the Turinada, an activity that increasingly is establishing itself as an authentic tradition in Olot. The Turinada is a dance/parade throughout the center of Olot ending in the Street of Tura. There takes place the Dance of Horta, accompanied by a large crowd of people, water and giant balloons. The Sardanas, music concerts, sporting competitions, bullfights, the correbous or the correfoc are other activities carried out during this festival. During the festival the city transforms itself to welcome the festival. The city is full of colors, music, traditions, dance and good atmosphere. The festivities end with big fireworks followed by another Giants Dance at the Plaça Major.
