Sons del Món 2016 −Vi & Music Empordà−
The 9th edition of the popular festival Sons del Món (lit. Sounds of the World) is almost here, it is one of the most original offers of the Empordà that brings together music, D.O. Empordà wines and gastronomy. Sons del Món is an event that has been created to have fun at the same time that we discover a little bit more of the culture of this region, which not only lives on what the sea brings. The festival comes in two formats: concerts paired with wine at the Citadel of Roses or at the square of the Basilica of Castelló d'Empúries, or concerts among vineyards at various cellars of the Empordà with wine-pairing and a dinner.
The Citadel of Roses, the space that hosted the town of Roses since it was founded by the Greeks until the modern times, and the Basilica of Castelló d'Empúries, the second most important religious building in the province after the Cathedral of Girona, are two outstanding heritage sites that explain an important piece of history of the Empordà. There will be the following performances: Noa (2 July, Castelló), Macaco (8 July, Roses), Rosario (15 July, Roses), Sopa de Cabra (23 July, Roses), and Manel (29 July, Castelló). Empuriabrava will join the program with a concert of Catalan rumba at the beach with the band Sabor de Gràcia (16 July).
Each concert has been paired with a wine specially chosen by a renowned sommelier. In addition, before each concert, you will have the possibility to participate in a professional wine tasting that will take place at the terrace of the convent of Santa Clara of Castelló d'Empúries or at the Museum of the Citadel of Roses. In each wine tasting there will be four wines and the enologist of the cellar paired will explain in person how each wine has been created while you enjoy them and learn how to distinguish the different flavours.
The second offer of the festival consists of concerts among vineyards. Here you will visit the cellar, have dinner among vineyards and and enjoy an intimate concert while savouring a glass of wine. There are scheduled five concerts of this type (but not all of them include a dinner): in the cellar of Vinyes dels Aspres will play Sanjosex (9 July, Cantallops), in the cellar of Mas Vida will play Marc Parrot (16 July, Cistella), in the cellar Masia Serra will play Sara Pi (22 July , Cantallops), in the cellar La Vinyeta will play Joana Serrat (July 29, Mollet de Peralada), and in the cellar of Celler d'en Guilla will play Cris Juanico (30 July, Rabós).
