This unique place offers a culinary style that has succeeded all over the world. Tapas are a wide variety of appetizers or snacks in Spanish cuisine. The word itself is derived from the Spanish verb tapar, which means, “to cover”.
According to legend the origin of this tradition began when King Alfonso X of Castile was recovering from a severe illness by drinking wine with small meals in between. After the illness he ordered that every tavern in Spain should only serve wine unless it was accompanied with a small snack.
Another more reliable story about the origin of tapas is that is was customary to serve alcoholic drinks in taverns covered by slices of bread, in order to prevent flies and other insects to hover over the drinks. Over time, this slice of bread was covered with ham or chorizo, and bartenders and restaurant owners began creating a variety of snacks.
Tapas have been evolving throughout time incorporating ingredients and influences from many cultures and countries from around the world.
If you want to enjoy a piece of history and improvise a meal our restaurant La Tapa, with its beautiful over the Mediterranean, is the ideal place to do it!
