Megalithic route in Roses
Throughout the Alt Empordà we find megalithic remains, fairly well preserved, which show the existence of the first settlers in the form of "dolmens", "menhirs" and "barracks". Specifically in Roses there are remains in the form of funerary buildings located very close to the urban core. You can make a walking route of approximately 2 and a half hours that will allow you to visit different prehistoric funerary spaces and cultural expressions of the Neolithic period.
The route begins on the road from Roses to Cala Montjoi, along a path that leads directly to one of the most important dolmens in Catalonia due to its size and because it was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1964, "La Creu d'en Corbetella"; a mortuary construction typical of the Neolithic. In the tour we can also observe in several points some of the stone barracks that served as refuge for the shepherds.
If we continue along the marked route we will find two of the most significant menhirs in the area: the "Casa Cremada I" and the "Casa Cremada II"; On the same trip we will visit two dolmens in very good condition: the "llit de la Generala" and the "Cap de l'Home", to finally end at the cave-dolmen of the "Rec de la Cuana" dating 2500 BC.
At the Vistabella hotel reception you will find supplementary information that will help you find access to this route as well as other routes for hikers of all levels.
