Hiking trail in Roses: Pic de l'Àliga

In Roses we are fortunate to be able to enjoy an incomparable environment where you can go from the sea to the mountain in the blink of an eye, ideal for those looking for a complete vacation! More and more our clients ask us for routes to discover the surroundings of Roses on foot, so today we propose you to climb the most emblematic peak of Roses: the Pic de l'Àliga. The Pic de l'Àliga (or Puig del Àliga) is 463 meters above sea level and from its summit you can enjoy 360º views of the Bay of Roses, Port de la Selva and Cap de Creus. There are several routes to get there that have different degrees of difficulty, although the most traditional is the one that begins and ends at Mas Oliva. It has a distance of 7.5 km and a positive difference in altitude of 450 meters. So after a good breakfast at our buffet, prepare comfortable clothes, a bottle of water and feel like walk! Let's get going! We will head to the Mas Oliva neighborhood until the end of Oslo street where we can leave our vehicle. The route is circular and therefore we will return to the starting point. We will go to the intersection of Amsterdam street with Brussels street and take the sandy track on the right, a few meters ahead we will find a centenary olive tree and just after that the ruins of Mas de l'Alzeda. To the left we will find a path that goes around the Mas ruins and here begins the ascent, we must follow the path up to the Mas d'en Causa, here we will go left, we will have a flat stretch to catch our breath and we will face the next-to-last climb, a wide track with higher slope that will take us to the Puig de la Sardina from where we will see the top. At this point we will have to decide whether to climb the peak climbing the rocks just in front of us or go around the base of the peak to the left to climb the marked trail. And we will have reached the summit! It's time to enjoy the wonderful views, take pictures, hydrate and start descending! The descent does not have much mystery, we will follow the marked trail passing by the Puig Cabrit (where we can also stop to see the views), the Lloba cave and the Puig d'en Massot. From here there is a stretch a bit leg-breaking with a lot of stone and quite uneven until you reach the area of the olive groves where we will find a much flatter track and that we will follow straight ahead, passing through the Sinols ditch to the Rescator residence and from here to the starting point.Since it is a circular route we could also do the itinerary in reverse but then we would do the whole climb with our backs to the view of the bay and the views are very worthwhile. You can also climb the Pic de l'Àliga from the area of "the sorrals", from the Pla de Gatas or from the area of the Dolmens. From the Vistabella reception desk we will be happy to give you all the necessary information.
