Schubertiade in Vilabertran
This encounter of chamber music and poetical lyrics centered on the work of Franz Schubert is celebrating its 20th edition from August 16th to September 8th, 2012. Originally the Schubertiadas were encounters of Franz Schubert’s friends, such as musicians, poets, painters, etc. who met and enjoyed the work of their friend and other composers and poets of the time. Schubert himself sang and played piano during these encounters. With the sudden death of Franz Schubert his friends continued to maintain these encounters. Over the years, the so called Schubertiades almost disappeared completely leaving only the one in Vienna, which conmemorates the anniversaries of birth an death of Franz Schubert. More than thirty years ago with the rediscovery of the varied work of Franz Schubert these encounters, the Schubertiadas, were implemented again and they also arrived to Spain, in particular to Catalonia, with the help of the Joventuts Musicals of Figueres. For a few weeks a year classical music artists honor the work of composer Franz Schubert and other artists such as Johann Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Frédéric Chopin, in the church of Santa Maria of Vilabertran (Alt Empordà).More information
