The Empordà is a very privileged region thanks to its location and the faith of many ancient civilizations that have left an imprint in history. Settled since the very beginning of history, the mountains of Serra Verdera conserve plenty of megalithic monuments, such as menhirs and dolmens (the biggest of Catalunya, known as “Creu d’en Corbertella” dates between 3000 - 2700 B.C., is located in Roses).

In the Renaissance style citadel of Roses, many remainings and ruins can be visited from the ancient Greek city of Rhode (776 B.C.), the Hellenistic district (IV & III century B.C.), as well as the Roman Village (dated within the II century B.C. and the VI century A.D.) and the Santa Maria monastery of Romanic-Lombard style (XI century).

One of the most important and most well-conserved Jewish Quarters in Europe can be found only 45 minutes away, in the city of Girona. Its cathedral has the widest Gothic nave in the World, and the second widest from any style (only behind the Basilica of Saint Peter). We are also at the centre of the so known “Dalí triangle”; formed by the Dalí Museum in Figueres, the Castle of Púbol where Gala was buried, and the house of Dalí in Port Lligat (Cadaqués).

Natural Parks

For the lovers of the nature, Roses is surrounded by the Natural Parks of the “Aiguamolls de l’Empordà”, “Cap de Creus” and “l’Albera”.

The most southern part of the Bay of Roses ends at the Maritime Natural Park of the “Illes Medes”.

Sports

In Roses all possible water-sports can be practiced, such as, scuba-diving, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing and kitesurf… Only a few kilometres away lays the aerodrome of Empuriabrava, where aerial excursions can be organized as well as sky-diving jumps.

Within the area, there are many important golf courses.
