The Torroella de Montgrí Festival of Music from July 21st until August 23rd
The Joventuts Musicals (an organization of young music artists of this town) established the Festival to restore the musical tradition of this village in 1980. The festival has maintained classical western music as its mainstay although other types of music from all around the world have been included in recent years. In 1993 this festival became a member of the European Association of Festivals. The Torroella de Montgrí Festival of Music is held in the historic settings of the Gothic church of Saint Genís, the Gothic-Renaissance main square of the village, the former Augustinian monastery from the 17th century, the castle of Solterra and Can Quintana (the cultural centre of the Mediterranean). This Festival accounts 655 concerts in its thirty-one years of existence. Among these, soloists such as violinists, cellists, flutists, double-bass player, harpists, guitarists and saxophonists have taken part in the Festival. Furthermore, orchestras, ensembles and choirs from around the world have performed over the years. And this year’s edition is no exception. Viktoria Mullova, Anne Sofie von Otter, Zemlinksy Quartet, Isabelle Faust, II Giardino Armonio, Laura Ruiz and Julia Lezjneva, are only a few of the artists performing on the 32 edition of this Festival. Do not miss it!
