I must say – a well deserved success! having the wonderful blue sea on one hand, and the plain of the Empordà on the other hand, we find in the middle the gracefully Bay of Roses … A HANDFUL OF WINNERS Every year,”the club of the most beautiful bays in the world”, an International Association founded in 1997, selects a handful of winners. Some standards are required: to be under official actions of protection, to shelter an interesting flora and fauna, to possess and outstanding natural beauty, to be known locally and internationally, to be a symbol for the local population and have an economic potential. Roses, Castelló d’Empúries, Sant Pere Pescador and L’Escala, which are part of the Bay of Roses, want to preserve their natural and cultural wealth. The Bay of Roses now shares this prestigious reward with more than thirty bays in the world, such as the Mont-St-Michel in the Normandy, the Bay of Cartagena in Colombia, the bay of Praia do Rosa in Brazil, the bay of Bodrum in Turkey, the Agadir Bay in Morocco and the Bay of Sine Saloum in Senegal.
